E.ON is the world’s largest investor-owned power and gas company, with 80,000 employees who all help to ensure that homes and businesses are provided with light and gas. The organisation is headquartered in Germany, though provides services across the globe.
The UK subsidiary of the business was launched in 1990 as the state-owned Powergen, before being bought by German energy giant E.ON in 2002. It has around 12,000 employees and in 2011, its retail unit generated sales of £7,058 million.
As well as providing electricity, the business owns 21 wind farms, a biomass station, and 13 large-scale combined heat and power facilities. Other services include energy consultancy, street lighting, and energy trading.
Graduate schemes at E.ON include corporate management, engineering, finance, HR, and IT. All recruits are provided with senior mentors, and the learning and development programme covers everything from presentation skills to project management. There’s also the opportunity to pursue professional qualifications with financial support, depending on the function that you choose.
The entry requirement is a 2:1 bachelor degree in any discipline. The programme lasts between 18 months and 2 years, and it’s expected that recruits will go on to senior positions within the business.
The company only came into existence in the year 2000.
