National Grid is one of the largest investor-owned energy companies in the world, and supplies energy to millions of businesses and homes across the globe.

The energy market is expected to change dramatically between now and 2015, meaning that National Grid is an extremely exciting place to start a career. It is investing £16billion into securing energy supplies for future generations, and needs a highly skilled and agile workforce to do so.

The graduate development programme offers the following roles: Technical Engineer, Commercial Analyst, Finance Analyst, Information Services, Procurement Buyer, and Property Management. All involve 3 six-month placements alongside a formal training programme, including professional qualifications, and a mentor scheme. Graduates are exposed to a variety of projects and functions, and are encouraged to take on real responsibility.

National Grid seeks to recruit graduates with a strong academic background, as well as the personal skills to contribute to the business. With a reputation for running a successful graduate scheme for over 20 years, the competition is often very tough.

There is a starting salary of around £25,600, and a benefits package that includes a pension scheme, 25 days of annual leave, and a share programme.
