Shell is a name within the graduate employment market that’ll make most graduates salivate!
Shell is a global group of energy and petrochemicals companies with diverse business interests including power generation, oil exploration, and consumer services. It plays an important role in helping to meet the world’s demand for energy in economically and environmentally responsible ways.
Headquartered in the Netherlands, it has around 87,000 employees and revenue of around $467billion. It has operations in over 90 countries, and has 44,000 service stations across the world.
Shell offers three-year graduate programmes in: IT, Finance, HR, Trading, Sales & Marketing, Supply & Distribution, and Engineering. The schemes are designed to provide the business with the senior leaders of the future, and are therefore stretching and challenging.
Graduates will typically complete three placements in various areas of the organisation, whilst following a comprehensive programme of learning and development. All successful applicants are given a mentor and a buddy, and will have the opportunity to study for a professional qualification in their chosen specialism. The application process is tough, and aims to identify the most talented graduates out there.
Starting salary is around £32,500, and there’s a competitive package of benefits available. The company also has a commitment to offering a good work-life balance and an interesting, multicultural work environment.
The Shell company used to actually sell sea shells (... on the seashore?).
